Zepto Tops 2023 LinkedIn List of India’s Hottest Startups

LinkedIn, the professional networking platform under Microsoft’s ownership, has just unveiled its 2023 LinkedIn Top 20 Indian Startups List, with Zepto securing the top position. This is followed by BluSmart and Ditto Insurance. This annual ranking spotlights emerging companies in diverse industries that professionals aspire to work for on a global scale.

Nirajita Banerjee, Head of Editorial at LinkedIn India, emphasized, “This list serves as a unique and actionable resource for professionals who are eager to work in new companies that are revolutionizing the industry and where one can acquire new skills.”

Zepto, the winner for 2023, was founded in 2021 and showed an exceptional growth trajectory, moving up from the fourth position in 2022. In August, it achieved unicorn status, marking India’s first unicorn of 2023, after securing $200 million in fresh funding. Zepto was also recognized as a LinkedIn Top Company in 2023.

BluSmart, an electric ride-sharing company, secured the second position on this year’s list. This marks its third consecutive appearance on the LinkedIn Top Startups list. Another newcomer in the electric mobility category, Exponent Energy, claimed the 15th position. The company experienced robust growth in the sector, driven by the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Nirajita Banerjee noted, “It’s truly remarkable that 14 of the 20 startups featured on this year’s list are new entrants, underscoring the immense potential and astonishing pace of innovation in India’s startup space.”

The fintech sector continued to dominate the list, with four startups making the cut this year: Ditto Insurance (#3), Fi Money (#7), Jar (#11), and StockGro (#14). This highlights the resilience of the fintech sector, which remains attractive to investors despite challenging market conditions.

Additionally, the edtech sector, represented by companies like Growth School (#10), Teachnook (#13), and AccioJob (#17), demonstrated the ongoing demand for upskilling among professionals and students, driven by rapid technological advancements, including artificial intelligence.

Banerjee encouraged individuals to seize the opportunity to join these startups, emphasizing that “these startups are looking to hire talent right now, so it’s a great opportunity to be part of the growth story of India’s vibrant startup ecosystem.”

LinkedIn’s Top Startups list is based on data from over 950 million members and focuses on four main areas: employee growth, jobseeker interest, member engagement within the company and its employees, and the startups’ ability to attract talent from LinkedIn’s flagship Top Companies list.
