Reportedly, WhatsApp is in the testing phase of a novel functionality enabling users to link multiple accounts within the Android app. This feature is presently available to a select group of beta testers.
The instant messaging application owned by Meta, WhatsApp, is allegedly introducing a fresh attribute to its Android beta evaluators. As disclosed by WaBetaInfo, this attribute empowers WhatsApp users to include numerous accounts within the widely-used messaging platform.
Currently, those seeking to incorporate a second account on their mobile device often turn to installing a duplicated iteration of WhatsApp. This solution, however, is applicable to specific Android gadgets. The newly introduced multi-account functionality in the most recent beta release presents an account switcher, streamlining the process of shifting between the device’s primary account and alternate WhatsApp accounts.
As per the report, the multi-account attribute is presently accessible to a select group of beta testers who have upgraded to WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.17.8. It is expected to gradually roll out to a wider audience in the upcoming weeks.
Once activated, WhatsApp will display a small arrow icon pointing downward next to the QR code within the settings menu. Subsequently, a card will emerge, presenting the primary account alongside an “Add account” button. Selecting this button will allow users to integrate an account registered on another device, leading to the synchronization of recent messages with their phone.
The report also includes a screenshot of this feature, showcasing the popup card that doubles as an account switcher. This card will exhibit the respective WhatsApp account’s linked phone number, enabling users to easily differentiate between accounts, complete with profile photos and usernames. Notably, this functionality was initially observed in development back in June.
Previously, WhatsApp introduced a “companion mode” that permitted users to configure an iPhone or Android smartphone as a secondary device, thus enabling the use of a sole account across various devices. However, the current constraint exists where users can employ just one account per device. A number of Android devices, such as Samsung smartphones, provide the capability to “clone” WhatsApp for the purpose of adding a secondary account.
