An upcoming WhatsApp update enables users to send higher-quality images, with similar enhancements planned for videos.
WhatsApp is receiving an update that permits users to share HD photos using the messaging platform. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled this feature through his Instagram broadcast channel and a Facebook post. This advancement, which empowers users to maintain the high-definition clarity of the images they share with their contacts, had previously undergone beta testing with a limited user group.
During the summer, observant users noticed the option within the Android beta version of WhatsApp and the iOS TestFlight app, hinting at an imminent public release.
To engage with this fresh capability, you must initially update your app to the most recent version. Following the update, a novel “HD” button will appear atop the photo-sharing interface, alongside other familiar image manipulation tools such as rotation, text addition, and stickers.
Upon tapping the HD button, a new dialog box emerges, granting the option to designate the photo quality. The default selection is Standard Quality, a deliberate choice by WhatsApp to ensure swift and dependable photo sharing. Nevertheless, you now have the alternative to toggle HD quality, preserving the image’s high-definition rendition.
Following transmission, the recipient views the image, distinguished by an HD label in the lower-left corner, indicating the exchange of a superior-quality picture. All images benefit from WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption, assuring their security.
The company underscores that in situations of low bandwidth connectivity, recipients can individually decide, on a per-photo basis, whether to maintain the standard version or upgrade it to HD.
