WhatsApp has unveiled a beta update featuring AI-generated stickers

The beta version of WhatsApp now includes AI-generated stickers, enabling users to craft custom stickers using textual descriptions.

WhatsApp‘s beta version is presently rolling out a cutting-edge update featuring AI-generated stickers. Undergoing rigorous beta testing, this functionality is being made available to a select group of users to evaluate its performance and uncover any potential glitches. This novel inclusion empowers users to fashion stickers through textual descriptions. The transformative potential of AI-generated stickers within the app is substantial, offering users the ability to design one-of-a-kind, personalized stickers.

According to information shared by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently in the midst of launching a new beta update that brings in the capability to employ and create AI-generated stickers. The report featured a screenshot demonstrating the step-by-step process of generating an AI-powered sticker.

It’s worth highlighting that a distinctive “create” button was readily discernible in the sticker tab. Users will be directed to input a description for the sticker they wish to generate. Subsequently, WhatsApp will present an array of AI-crafted stickers derived from the supplied description, granting the user the option to select their desired sticker for sharing.

As reported by Android Police, the exact generative AI model underpinning this novel feature remains undisclosed by the company. The report also indicated that Meta is employing secure technology to back the AI sticker feature, though the precise technology utilized was left unspecified. Another account from The Verge emphasized that the functionality of this feature will resemble that of existing models such as Midjoureny or OpenAI’s DALL-E, enabling users to create customized images.

Furthermore, the app will also issue notifications if there are instances of potentially harmful or unsuitable AI-generated stickers being created. However, the precise actions to be taken in response to such instances were not explicitly outlined. As highlighted in WABetaInfo’s report, users will also possess the ability to identify whether a sticker has been generated using Meta’s AI technology, signified by a watermark visibly incorporated onto the sticker.
