Twitter Blue users on iOS can now download videos, with support for Android and the web coming soon

Twitter has rolled out a new feature exclusively for verified iOS users, enabling them to download videos directly without relying on third-party tools. Twitter Blue subscribers on iOS can now enjoy the added benefit of downloading videos directly from the app. While this feature is currently available for iOS users, Twitter has also announced plans to extend support to Android and web users in the near future.

Under its newly rebranded name, X, Twitter has been making headlines lately, with questions arising about Elon Musk’s decision to replace the iconic blue bird logo. Amidst the changes, a discreetly released feature allows Twitter Blue (verified) users to download videos without the need for third-party tools.

According to a Twitter support page, videos uploaded to the platform after July 25 can be downloaded by Verified Users, except when the uploader has opted out. Users have the option to disable video downloads by accessing the ‘Edit’ button in the bottom right of the screen after adding a video to a tweet and disabling the ‘Allow video to be downloaded’ option.

By disabling downloads, users prevent others from directly sharing videos to third-party platforms, but they can still share a link to the tweet. Twitter has implemented age restrictions for the video download setting, automatically disabling and making it unavailable for users under 18 years of age.

If your Tweets are protected, only your followers will have access to view the video. However, they might be able to download or re-share links to protected tweets, as video links on Twitter are not protected, allowing anyone with the link to view the content. If you wish to keep your videos private and not visible to anyone on the platform, you will need to delete the tweet containing the video.

To retrieve a video from Twitter, adhere to these instructions:

Tap on the three-dot menu located in the top right corner and select the ‘Download Video’ option. Presently, this feature is available for iOS users, but Twitter has plans to extend support to Android and the web version soon.
