Truecaller has introduced a new web-based version of its caller identification application, offering various features like SMS and chat synchronization, call notifications, and number lookup capabilities directly on desktop platforms. Initially, this web version, named Truecaller for Web, is exclusively accessible to Android users in India, with plans for expansion to other regions in the future.
Android users in India can now connect their devices to the web client on PCs or Macs using a QR code provided by Truecaller. The current setup allows only one active web session per user, with automatic sign-out after 30 days of inactivity. Users also have the option to manually unlink browsers from their accounts through settings, mirroring similar functionality seen in messaging platforms like WhatsApp or Telegram.
Despite being a late addition, the SMS and chat synchronization feature could offer convenience for users in responding to messages swiftly or accessing one-time passwords for authentication. Truecaller, with its significant user base in India, aims to provide a seamless experience across devices.
Additionally, Truecaller enhances its web lookup feature, removing any rate limits for users on the web client. Real-time caller identification notifications are also displayed when receiving calls through the web interface.
Although Truecaller has been focusing on integrating AI-powered functionalities into its platform, such as call blocking and transcription features, the company faced a stock dip in October 2023 due to lower revenues. However, the stock has shown signs of recovery since then, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s prospects.
