Swiggy introduces the ‘Scenes’ app for live events, aiming to compete with Zomato’s District app

Swiggy has introduced a new feature called “Scenes” in its app, which highlights live happenings such as New Year’s Eve celebrations, concerts, DJ nights, and various events organized by its partner restaurants. Users can buy tickets directly through the Swiggy platform.

This move comes shortly after Zomato introduced its dedicated app, District, for event and experience bookings. Swiggy’s launch of Scenes intensifies the rivalry between the two major food delivery platforms as they expand into new sectors beyond just food delivery and rapid commerce.

Scenes are integrated within Swiggy’s super app ecosystem and focus exclusively on live events, unlike Zomato’s District, which offers a broader range of services such as movie ticket bookings.

This expansion is part of Swiggy’s strategy to diversify and explore additional revenue opportunities, while also increasing user engagement. The company reported a notable increase in Monthly Transacting Users (MTU), adding one million new users in Q2FY25, bringing the total to 17.1 million, which marks a 7% growth from the previous quarter. previous quarter and a 19% growth compared to last year.

Additionally, Swiggy has rolled out “One BLCK,” an exclusive, invite-only membership designed for premium users seeking concierge-style services. This offering sets Swiggy apart from Zomato, which doesn’t currently have a similar service. The membership offers benefits such as quicker deliveries, complimentary items like drinks or desserts at partner restaurants, and priority access to customer support.

The rivalry between Zomato and Swiggy is intensifying, with both companies now competing in the realms of food delivery, quick commerce, dining, and event ticketing. Scenes are currently available in Bengaluru, but Swiggy’s plans for expanding the service and the range of experiences it will offer are still unclear.
