Samsung unveiled its latest offerings in the world of foldable smartphones – the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5, alongside new Galaxy tablets and smartwatches. While the Indian prices are yet to be announced, the Galaxy Z Flip5 starts at $999 for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant, and the Galaxy Z Fold5 starts at $1,799 for the base model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.
Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 will begin in select markets on July 26, with general availability commencing on August 11.
The Galaxy Z Flip5 comes with a larger cover display, about 3.78 times larger than the previous generation, enabling support for more widgets, a complete typing experience, quick settings access, and easy camera usage. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Fold5 is the slimmest and lightest Fold model yet, featuring a 7.6-inch inner display with improved brightness of over 30%. The phone is now water-resistant and boasts a new hinge design, allowing it to fold flat, resulting in a 2mm thickness reduction. It also supports Samsung’s S-Pen for taking notes and creating drawings.
Both smartphones are powered by a custom version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, specifically designed for Samsung smartphones. The devices also incorporate a wider range of recycled materials, including recycled glass, aluminum, and plastic sourced from fishing nets, water barrels, and PET bottles. This aligns with Samsung’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 for its device experience division.
According to TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Experience Business at a prominent electronics company, Samsung is transforming the mobile industry through cutting-edge foldables, establishing new standards, and continuously enhancing user experiences. He further highlighted the increasing preference for Samsung’s foldables due to their unparalleled and distinctive user experience.
The Galaxy Z Flip5 boasts two 12MP rear cameras and a 10MP front camera on the foldable display. It comes with enhanced AI-assisted image processing and offers 10X digital zoom. The latest model features a larger 3.4-inch AMOLED cover display and a 6.7-inch 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED main screen.
In terms of battery, the Z Flip5 is equipped with a 3700mAh battery that supports 25W wired charging and fast wireless charging. The device comes in various colors like Mint, Graphite, Cream, Lavender, Gray, Blue, Green, and Yellow.
The Z Fold5, on the other hand, sports a 7.6-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a 6.2-inch cover display. Its camera setup includes triple rear cameras: a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera. Additionally, it features a 4MP under-display camera inside the main display and another 10MP selfie camera on the cover display.
The Z Fold5 packs a 4,400mAh battery with 25W wired charging and fast wireless charging capabilities. Consumers can choose from colors like Icy Blue, Phantom Black, Cream, Gray, and Blue.
Both smartphones come with side-mounted fingerprint sensors, IPX8 water resistance, and Samsung Knox security. Samsung has committed to providing five years of security updates and four generations of OS upgrades for its latest foldable smartphones, ensuring an extended life cycle for these innovative devices.
