Samsung is considering the possibility of introducing the Galaxy Ring, potentially slated for release in late 2024 or early 2025

According to reports, Samsung is in the final stages of development for their upcoming project. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the tech giant may need to delay the launch until late 2024 or early 2025.

Several months back, during Samsung’s presentation of its foldable devices at the Galaxy Unpacked event, speculation circulated regarding the South Korean tech giant’s plans to introduce its inaugural smart ring.

Referred to as the ‘Galaxy Ring,’ an article in the South Korean publication The Elec implied that Samsung could potentially opt for circuit boards supplied by Japan’s Meiko. Presently, a fresh report indicates that the company is contemplating a potential shift in the launch timeline, possibly targeting the third quarter of 2024 or the outset of 2025.

Much like a conventional fitness tracker, a smart ring is expected to possess the capability to perform all the essential functions typical of fitness trackers, including monitoring heart rate, tracking sleep patterns, counting steps, and logging workout sessions—all without the need for a display.

Furthermore, the report indicates that this forthcoming wearable is well into its advanced development stages and is set to be offered in four distinct sizes, catering to individuals with varying finger thickness.

Samsung is reportedly exploring collaborations with component suppliers such as ‘Doosung Tech’ and ‘Korea Seongjeon’ in order to source various components for the Galaxy Ring. According to the publication, should Samsung aim to release the smart ring with medical certification akin to the Galaxy Watch, it may necessitate a delay in the launch schedule. This is because product development typically spans 7-8 months, and obtaining medical approval could extend the timeline by an additional year.

When considering the landscape of existing smart rings available in the market, such as the recently introduced Noise Luna or the higher-end Oura Ring, it appears that the Galaxy Ring could potentially provide functionalities akin to those found in fitness trackers. These functionalities may encompass heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, blood oxygen level measurement, step counting, and workout detection.
