OpenAI might unveil GPT-5 within a few months

According to a recent report, OpenAI might introduce GPT-5, the upcoming iteration of its revolutionary expansive language model, within the next few months.

Sam Altman-led OpenAI is anticipated to unveil GPT-5, the forthcoming iteration of its multimodal expansive language model, within the next few months. As per a report from Business Insider, the company might introduce GPT-5 around mid-year, during the summer, as indicated by two individuals familiar with the company. OpenAI has purportedly provided demonstrations to enterprise clients.

According to the report, one CEO who recently viewed a version of GPT-5 remarked, “It’s really good, like materially better.” Sales to enterprise clients constitute one of OpenAI’s primary revenue sources, and it appears logical that the company is extending these features to such clientele.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is also progressing towards integrating its technology into humanoid robots. Collaborating with Figure AI, the startup aims to develop humanoid robots tailored for workforce deployment.

This collaboration will merge OpenAI’s research with Figure’s expertise in both hardware and software within the field of robotics. Figure aims to expedite its progress by empowering its humanoid robots with the ability to process and “reason” from natural language.

Humanoid robots have become a prominent trend, with major technology players competing to develop their solutions. NVIDIA recently announced Project GR00T, a versatile foundation model tailored for humanoid robots. Additionally, the company introduced a new computing system named Jetson Thor designed specifically for humanoid robots, alongside enhancements to its Isaac robotics platform.

OpenAI has also advanced its offerings this year, surpassing its ChatGPT chatbot and DALL.E image generation tool with the introduction of Sora, a new AI software capable of generating hyper-realistic one-minute videos based on textual prompts. Currently, Sora appears to be undergoing red teaming, where the company identifies potential flaws in the system.

However, the development of GPT-5 may be slightly delayed, as it does not appear to have entered the red teaming phase yet. Furthermore, anticipated release dates might be pushed back further if OpenAI encounters issues during the demonstration and testing phases.
