Microsoft will discontinue the Windows Mail and Calendar app and redirect users to the new Outlook platform

As part of the transition, users will be seamlessly migrated to the new Outlook app, while the existing Mail and Calendar app will remain available for download until the end of 2024.

Microsoft has announced its plans to phase out the Windows Mail and Calendar application. Instead, users will be seamlessly redirected to the newly upgraded Outlook platform. This transition aims to enhance the overall user experience and ensure a more integrated and efficient email and calendar management system. By aligning with the latest developments, Microsoft is committed to providing its users with a cutting-edge, unified solution for their communication and scheduling needs.

Microsoft has started informing users of Windows 10 and Windows 11 about the automatic migration from the old Mail and Calendar apps to the new Outlook app.

Initially introduced in 2015, these native applications provided a convenient means to access emails and view upcoming calendar events. Despite Windows 11’s continued inclusion of these dated apps, Microsoft now encourages users to explore the new Outlook app.

If you are a Windows user, you can easily switch to the updated version of Outlook by enabling the ‘Try the new Outlook’ toggle located in the top right corner of the Windows Mail app.

With the new Outlook, users can effortlessly import their settings from the Mail app, benefiting from a comprehensive web interface accessible to both Microsoft 365 subscribers and free users alike.

As per a document presently accessible exclusively to Microsoft 365 business users, Microsoft has officially initiated the migration process. Starting in August 2023, the company will automatically commence migrating Mail and Calendar app users to the new Outlook for Windows. Nevertheless, users have the option to opt-out and revert to the previous setup by disabling the toggle located in the top right corner.

Microsoft has further announced that beginning next year, all Windows 11 devices will come pre-installed with the new Outlook for Windows. However, users will still have the option to download and utilize Windows Mail and Calendar from the Microsoft Store until the end of 2024.
