Microsoft has integrated OpenAI’s o1 reasoning model into the free version of Copilot and has now lifted usage restrictions on Copilot Voice and Think Deeper.
In a recent announcement, Microsoft confirmed that these features leverage the same AI model that powers ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode and Deep Research.
Copilot Voice allows users to engage in natural conversations with the AI, similar to interacting with a human assistant. It also supports real-time interruptions, enabling users to ask follow-up questions mid-response, much like Google’s Gemini Live.
The Think Deeper feature, comparable to ChatGPT’s Deep Research (currently limited to paid users), provides in-depth analysis on complex topics such as evaluating major purchases, assessing home renovation value, or planning career moves. However, responses from Think Deeper may take longer due to the complexity of the queries.
While these capabilities were previously available, they had usage restrictions for free-tier users. Microsoft’s decision to remove these limits comes after users frequently encountered restrictions, allowing for extended AI interactions.
This move may also be influenced by the rising competition from China’s DeepSeek AI, which offers similar advanced AI capabilities.
