Microsoft introduces Surface PCs featuring a specialized Copilot button

Microsoft has unveiled two new Surface laptops featuring a dedicated “Assistant” button for quick access to its chatbot helper. The Surface Pro 10 for Business and Surface Laptop 6 for Business highlight the convenience of having AI assistance at your fingertips.

These new “AI PCs” retain the iconic Surface designs while integrating Intel’s latest Core Ultra processors, equipped with a specialized neural processing unit (NPU) for accelerated AI tasks. While Surface devices have incorporated NPUs since 2019, the addition of the Assistant button marks a significant evolution in user-computer interaction.

Positioned next to the arrow keys, the Assistant button enables users to summon Microsoft’s AI helper in a sidebar on the right side of the screen. This integration of AI alongside the user’s workspace aims to boost productivity and efficiency by offering context-aware assistance whenever needed.

Microsoft is presenting the Surface Pro 10 for Business as its “most powerful Surface Pro to date,” leveraging Intel Core Ultra processors and the option for 5G connectivity on Intel’s platform. The company highlights the device’s versatility, positioning it as both a tablet for frontline workers and a robust laptop for office environments.

Meanwhile, the Surface Laptop 6 for Business is promoted as the “ultimate laptop tailored for business.” It boasts enhanced thermal capacity to optimize performance from Intel Core Ultra H-Series processors, ensuring seamless productivity for demanding tasks.

Both devices target enterprise customers, as evident from their “for Business” branding. They will be exclusively available through Microsoft’s website and commercial resellers, with prices starting at $1,199 (~Rs 1 lakh) and customizable configurations up to 64GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

The introduction of these AI-centric Surface PCs follows shortly after Apple revealed its latest M3-powered MacBook Air laptops with an upgraded Neural Engine for enhanced machine learning capabilities.
