Proton, known for its secure email service Proton Mail, has introduced Lumo—a new AI chatbot focused on keeping user data private. Unlike other chatbots, Lumo keeps your data on your device and uses “zero-access” encryption to ensure even Proton can’t view your chats.
How It Works:
Lumo runs on a combination of open-source AI models such as Mistral and OLMO 2, hosted securely on Proton’s servers in Europe. The chatbot can help you write emails, summarize text, generate code, and more—all while protecting your personal information.
Lumo uses TLS encryption for safe data transfers, and when needed, it selects the best AI model to handle your query. Thanks to Ghost Mode, your chats won’t be saved anywhere—not even on your device.
More Features:
- Web Search (off by default): Can be enabled to pull fresh information using privacy-first search engines.
- File Analysis: You can upload files for summarization without storing them.
- Safely link your Proton Drive files to conversations for added convenience.
Plans & Access:
- Without an account: 25 queries per week, no chat history.
- Free Proton account: 100 questions per week.
- Lumo Plus (₹12.99/month): Enjoy endless conversations, saved encrypted chats, and added features.
