Instagram is introducing several new features aimed at giving users greater control over their profiles and creative expression. Among the most anticipated updates is the ability to rearrange posts on your profile grid, a feature long requested by users. This update allows people to personalize the look of their grid by moving posts around instead of being limited to the default chronological layout. Previously, the only customization available was pinning a post to the top.
This change enables users to better showcase specific content or create a more cohesive visual theme on their profiles. Although Instagram explored this idea in 2022, it’s now preparing for an official launch in 2025.
Another feature currently being tested is a quiet posting option. With this, users can share photos or videos to their profile without having them appear in their followers’ feeds. Instagram says this is designed to reduce the pressure of public engagement and give users a more relaxed way to update their profiles. It’s especially useful for those who want to share content without focusing on likes or visibility.
This idea is similar to Instagram’s “trial reels,” which let creators publish content that doesn’t show up in followers’ feeds. According to the platform, 40% of creators shared Reels more frequently after using this feature, and 80% of those saw improved reach among new viewers.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri says these updates aim to offer more freedom in how users present themselves and ease the stress of creating content.
Another update coming to the app is a Spotify integration for Notes. Users can now share what they’re currently listening to directly from Spotify into their Instagram Notes, allowing friends and followers to see—and potentially explore—their music preferences in real time.
Instagram also unveiled a new program called Drafts, focused on supporting up-and-coming creators. This initiative isn’t a fixed creator fund, but rather a flexible support system that may include financial aid, networking opportunities, content collaboration, or strategic input—depending on each creator’s needs.
According to Instagram, Drafts is designed to provide tailored support and foster creativity across its platform.
