LinkedIn’s inaugural worldwide report titled ‘Future of Work: State of Work @ AI’ has revealed that the number of Indian members equipped with AI skills witnessed a remarkable 14-fold surge in June 2023 compared to January 2016.
Amid the growing significance of Artificial Intelligence in the realm of work, Indian professionals are actively adopting AI skills, leading to a 14-fold surge in the number of skilled individuals since 2016, as stated in LinkedIn’s recent report. The report, titled ‘Future of Work: State of Work @ AI,’ highlighted that AI-skilled members in India witnessed a substantial increase, reaching 14 times the count recorded in January 2016, by June 2023.
This expansion places India among the top five nations experiencing a surge in AI talent growth. The other countries in this group include Singapore, Finland, Ireland, and Canada, as outlined in the report.
The AI Skills Index value developed by LinkedIn gauges the extent to which the proportion of members featuring a minimum of 2 AI skills on their profiles has escalated in comparison to the benchmark set in January 2016.
In the last year, the adoption of AI in workplaces has risen, leading 60 percent of all employees and 71 percent of Gen Z professionals in India to acknowledge that gaining AI skills could greatly improve their career opportunities.
Moreover, two-thirds of individuals in India express their intention to acquire at least one digital skill in 2023. Notably, AI and Machine Learning are among the most sought-after skills for acquisition, as highlighted in the report.
Additionally, the report underlines that senior company leaders are placing significant emphasis on AI skill development, recruitment, and integration in India. Approximately 57 percent of executives have strategic plans to elevate AI utilization within their organizations in the coming year. This indicates a proactive initiative by businesses to upskill their existing workforce in AI proficiencies, ensuring their teams retain flexibility and adaptability.

With the highest echelons of India’s corporate sphere endorsing the power of interpersonal aptitude in the AI era, we are entering a phase that prioritizes more enriching, human-centered employment,” remarked Ashutosh Gupta, Country Manager at LinkedIn India.
In an effort to cultivate a labor market centered around skills, LinkedIn is committing INR 3 crore to a three-year collaboration with The/Nudge Institute. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to establishing resilient livelihoods for all.
Through this partnership, the aim is to equip economically disadvantaged youth in India with employability skills, ensuring their preparedness for the future, according to LinkedIn.
