Google is introducing a feature that allows users to swipe right or left on clothing items to receive improved fashion recommendations

Google has unveiled an update aimed at enhancing personalized shopping experiences, as announced on Wednesday. This new feature enables users to rate various products to receive style recommendations while browsing for clothing, footwear, and accessories. This enhancement reflects Google’s ongoing competition with entities such as Amazon and Walmart, both of which have introduced AI-driven functionalities to rival Google’s shopping offerings.

Now, when conducting a search query like “men’s polo shirts” on Google, users will encounter a new section labeled “style recommendations.” Within this section, they can provide ratings using a thumbs-up or thumbs-down gesture, or utilize a swipe gesture similar to Tinder to evaluate products. Users also have the option to skip items they are unsure about. Once users have rated a selection of products, Google will present personalized results for them to explore.

If you haven’t found the desired item yet, Google offers the option to rate more items to access additional results. Your preferences will be saved by Google, so future searches for men’s polo shirts will display style recommendations based on your past preferences.

In the event of mistakenly liking a product or desiring to opt out of personalized shopping results entirely, users can manage their preferences by tapping the three-dot menu next to a result and accessing personalization options within the “About this result” panel.

This new feature is being rolled out to all U.S. consumers using mobile browsers and the Google application. Google has not specified if or when it intends to extend the feature to other countries.

The company discloses that users shop on Google over a billion times daily and encounter over 45 billion products in their search results. Google further reveals that it updates more than two billion listings hourly with up-to-date information on pricing, availability, and shipping details.
