Brave is set to launch its AI assistant on iPhone and iPad

Brave revealed on Wednesday its intention to introduce its AI assistant, Leo, to iPhone and iPad users. Leo facilitates various tasks such as answering questions, summarizing pages, and content creation. The introduction on iOS comes after the prior deployment of the AI assistant on Android and desktop systems.

The iOS debut of Leo includes voice-to-text functionality, a feature not present in the Android version. With this capability, users can dictate their queries aloud, eliminating the need for manual typing. Brave emphasizes that this addition enhances interaction with the AI assistant.

In addition to page or video summarization, Leo can provide answers based on the content it analyzes, generate comprehensive written reports, translate or rephrase pages, transcribe video or audio content, and even write code. By offering a built-in AI assistant, Brave aims to reduce reliance on external services like ChatGPT.

Leo integrates Mixtral 8x7B, Anthropic’s Claude Instant, and Meta’s Llama 2 13B. While Mixtral 8x7B serves as Leo’s default LLM, users can opt for other LLMs or upgrade to Leo Premium for enhanced rate limits at $14.99 per month.

Brave isn’t the sole browser provider to introduce an AI assistant; Opera debuted its AI assistant, Aria, last year. Developed in collaboration with OpenAI, Aria boasts a chatbot-like interface enabling users to ask questions and receive instant responses.

Brave Leo for iOS is now accessible to all users with version 1.63. To engage Leo, users can open the browser, enter queries in the address bar, and select “Ask Leo.” Leo is an opt-in feature and can be deactivated via the app’s settings.
