Apple is set to enhance the audio experience of its AirPods Max with USB-C by introducing lossless audio and ultra-low latency support in an upcoming software update. This upgrade, part of iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4, will be rolled out in April. The new features aim to deliver superior sound quality and seamless real-time audio performance, making it a significant upgrade for both music enthusiasts and gamers.
With this update, AirPods Max will support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected via USB-C. This means users will experience studio-grade sound quality, capturing the finer details of original recordings. Lossless audio preserves the full range of sound, delivering richer, more precise, and clearer audio compared to compressed formats. Additionally, Personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking will create an immersive 3D listening experience, making music and movies feel more realistic.
The ultra-low latency audio is a game-changer for gamers and livestreamers, significantly reducing sound delay. With near-instant audio response, gameplay will feel smoother and more synchronized with the visual content. This ensures real-time accuracy, giving gamers a competitive edge, while livestreamers can enjoy flawless audio synchronization.
For music creators, the update brings enhanced production capabilities. They will be able to create and mix in Personalised Spatial Audio with improved low-latency feedback, making the recording and editing process more precise. The USB-C connectivity ensures faster data transfer, maintaining consistent and high-quality audio output.
Apple is also offering a USB-C to 3.5 mm audio cable priced at ₹3,900 in India. This cable allows users to connect AirPods Max to traditional audio sources, such as car stereos, airplane entertainment systems, and older audio devices, expanding its versatility.
The AirPods Max with USB-C is currently available in India for ₹59,900 through Apple’s online store, the Apple Store app, and authorized resellers. It comes in five colors: midnight, starlight, blue, purple, and orange.
By adding lossless audio and low-latency support, Apple is positioning the AirPods Max as a top-tier audio device for both casual listeners and creative professionals. The seamless multi-device integration across macOS, iOS, and iPadOS ensures a consistent, high-fidelity audio experience, making this update a major step forward for Apple’s audio ecosystem.
