Apple could potentially be developing a smart doorbell

Recent reports suggest Apple is looking to broaden its presence in the smart home market with new devices, including a wall-mounted smart home hub. According to Bloomberg, this expansion also involves the development of a smart doorbell.

The planned doorbell might utilize Apple’s FaceID technology to identify faces as people near the door. It would then wirelessly communicate with a connected deadbolt lock to automatically unlock the door for authorized residents.

The product is still in the early stages of development and is not anticipated to be released before the end of 2025. It may work with HomeKit-compatible third-party locks or could debut through a partnership with a specific lock manufacturer.

Bloomberg highlights that a smart doorbell with FaceID could position Apple as a competitor to devices like Amazon Ring. However, it also raises concerns about potential security risks, such as the possibility of the system being implicated in home break-ins.
