Adobe’s Firefly Services unveils more than 20 new generative and creative APIs accessible to developers

Adobe has unveiled Firefly Services, comprising more than 20 novel generative and creative APIs, tools, and services. These services bring some of Adobe’s AI-powered functionalities from its Creative Cloud tools like Photoshop to enterprise developers, enabling accelerated content creation within their custom workflows or the development of entirely new solutions.

Additionally, Adobe has introduced Custom Models, enabling businesses to refine Firefly models based on their assets. Custom Models is already integrated into Adobe’s new GenStudio.

Described as a “comprehensive set of generative AI and creative APIs that automate workflows,” Firefly Services offers APIs for background removal, intelligent image cropping, automatic horizon leveling in photos, and access to fundamental AI-driven Photoshop functionalities such as Generative Fill and Expand. Furthermore, Firefly Services provides tools for text layer editing, content tagging, and applying presets from Lightroom.

David Wadhwani, president of Digital Media Business at Adobe, remarked, “As consumer expectations for generative AI-driven personalization continue to rise, Firefly Services and Custom Models are groundbreaking offerings that empower brands with robust customization capabilities and greater control over defining their automation processes. Brands are turning to Adobe to transition their generative AI investments from experimental stages to production.”

Primarily tailored for enterprise use cases, these new tools aim to streamline content creation workflows for brands. Despite the demand for generative AI among enterprises, concerns about brand safety have hindered the adoption of such tools in production environments. From the outset, Adobe has positioned Firefly as a brand-safe alternative to other models, and this new suite of services upholds that commitment.

Billy Seabrook, global chief design officer at IBM Consulting, noted, “The heightened expectations for customer experiences have prompted brands to reimagine how they produce and personalize marketing content at scale. Adobe applications have been crucial in our creative process, and now, with Firefly, we can rapidly generate imagery and templates in diverse styles and sizes to match our brand. standards and involve more individuals in the creative process.”
