Meta AI will also show ready-made prompts to make it easier for users to start chatting. This update is expected to bring more natural conversations, similar to how Google’s Gemini Live Mode works.
Meta first added its AI assistant to WhatsApp last year. While it can already answer questions and generate images from text, it’s still catching up with more advanced tools like ChatGPT or Perplexity when it comes to deep research or reasoning.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, the new voice mode is being tested in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android (v2.25.21.21). Screenshots show a new interface with a waveform icon. When you tap the icon, it begins a voice chat with Meta AI.
There are also settings to auto-launch voice mode from the Chats tab, and users will be able to start AI voice chats from the Calls section too—almost like making a call to the chatbot. You can also minimize the chat and keep talking while using other apps, and there’s an option to mute the voice session if needed.
Meta AI will also show ready-made prompts to make it easier for users to start chatting. These appear like ready-made questions under the Meta AI tab.
Right now, the feature is only available to selected beta testers, and Meta hasn’t confirmed when it will launch for everyone.
