JioHotstar: A New Streaming Giant Uniting JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar
JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar have officially merged to create JioHotstar, one of India’s largest streaming platforms. This new service is a result of the joint venture JioStar, which brings together Viacom18 and Star India.
What JioHotstar Offers
JioHotstar aims to provide high-quality entertainment to a vast audience across India, offering content in 10 languages. The platform promises a seamless viewing experience, allowing users to watch their favorite movies, TV shows, and live sports in a single app.
According to JioHotstar CEO Kiran Mani, the goal is to make “premium entertainment easily accessible to all Indians.” Existing JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar subscribers will be able to transition smoothly to the new service.

JioHotstar will not only feature original programming but will also provide access to content from leading global studios, including NBCUniversal’s Peacock, Warner Bros, Discovery, HBO, and Paramount—a unique offering unmatched by other Indian streaming services.
The platform will also introduce Sparks, an initiative designed to highlight India’s top digital creators. Additionally, JioHotstar will be the go-to destination for major sporting events, including:
- Indian Premier League (IPL)
- Women’s Premier League (WPL)
- ICC Cricket Tournaments
- Top football leagues, Grand Slam tennis, kabaddi championships, and Indian football tournaments.
