ChatGPT, Sora, and OpenAI’s developer-focused API experienced a prolonged outage on Thursday, lasting over four hours. OpenAI said the issue began around 11 a.m. PT and was linked to one of their upstream providers. By 3:16 p.m. PT, the company reported that services were gradually being restored. However, users might still encounter issues with chat history loading as OpenAI continues working on a complete resolution.
This marks the second service disruption for OpenAI’s tools in December. Earlier this month, a similar outage lasting approximately six hours occurred, which OpenAI attributed to complications with a new telemetry service.
During the recent downtime, it noted error messages while accessing both ChatGPT and Sora. Interestingly, popular platforms that integrate OpenAI’s API, such as Perplexity and Siri’s Apple Intelligence integration, seemed unaffected, according to their status pages.
