In connection with the suicide of Atul Subhash, Bengaluru police arrested his wife, Nikita Singhania, in Gurugram, while her mother, Nisha, and brother, Anurag, were detained in Allahabad. They are facing charges related to the abetment of suicide.
The police officer overseeing the investigation shared that Nikita was arrested in Haryana, and Nisha and Anurag were taken into custody in Uttar Pradesh on charges of abetting Atul’s suicide. The three were later presented in court and remanded to judicial custody.
In the initial report, the suspects are accused under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5) (criminal conspiracy). They are also alleged to have demanded Rs 3 crore in exchange for dropping legal cases against Atul and Rs 30 lakh for allowing visitation rights to his son.
The arrests followed a joint effort between Bengaluru and Uttar Pradesh police to locate the accused. Nisha and Anurag had fled their home in Jaunpur late Wednesday, prompting Bengaluru police to post a notice on the locked door of Nisha’s residence.
Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old from Munnekollal, was found dead in his apartment earlier this week, leading his brother Bikas Kumar to file a complaint against Nikita, her mother, brother, and uncle, Sushil Singhania.
The four suspects had sought anticipatory bail from the Allahabad High Court, but the decision was pending when the arrests occurred. Atul had left behind a 24-page note and an 81-minute video where he claimed to have been harassed and accused a family court judge in Uttar Pradesh of corruption for favoring his in-laws.
Atul, a deputy general manager at an automobile company in Bengaluru, married Nikita, a software professional, in 2019, but the couple later separated. He was confronted with multiple accusations, such as murder, dowry-related harassment, and unnatural sexual acts, with some cases also involving his parents.
