WhatsApp Unveils New Features for Audio and Video Calls
WhatsApp has introduced four exciting updates to enhance audio and video calling for mobile and desktop users, just in time for the holiday season. These improvements aim to provide a better user experience and make communication more engaging. The Meta-owned platform revealed the new features in a recent blog post, highlighting that over 2 billion calls are made on WhatsApp globally.
New Features for WhatsApp Audio and Video Calls
- Select Participants for Group Calls:
Users can now choose specific individuals to include when starting a group call. This feature is particularly useful for scenarios like planning surprise events or discussing private matters, where selective communication is essential. - Expanded Video Effects:
WhatsApp has added new effects for video calls, such as puppy ears, karaoke microphones, and underwater visuals, expanding on the night mode and earlier effects. Additionally, video calls now support higher-resolution quality, ensuring clearer visuals in both one-on-one and group settings. - Enhanced Desktop Calling Experience:
The desktop version of WhatsApp now offers a more seamless calling experience. Users can easily access options to start a call, create call links, or dial numbers directly by navigating to the dedicated calls tab. - Typing Indicators Update:
A refreshed Typing Indicators feature makes it easier for users to see who is actively typing. In personal and group chats, users will now see a “…” icon along with the profile picture of the person typing. This is especially helpful in group conversations, where it provides a clearer indication of who is about to send a message, allowing others to respond more effectively.
These updates demonstrate WhatsApp’s ongoing commitment to improving its platform and enhancing user interactions across both mobile and desktop devices.
