OpenAI’s widely used AI-driven conversational tool has recently undergone a significant enhancement.
Today, OpenAI revealed that subscribers to premium tiers of the service—those enrolled in ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Enterprise—can now access an updated and improved iteration of the GPT-4 Turbo model, a core component enabling the interactive ChatGPT platform.
Dubbed “gpt-4-turbo-2024-04-09,” this fresh iteration boasts enhancements in multiple areas, including writing, mathematics, logical reasoning, and coding, according to OpenAI. Additionally, it incorporates a more current repository of knowledge. Unlike its predecessor, which had its data cut-off in April 2023, this version was trained on publicly available information up to December 2023.
“In utilizing ChatGPT [featuring the new GPT-4 Turbo], users can expect responses to be more concise, less verbose, and infused with a conversational tone,” OpenAI explained in a statement shared on X.
Following the recent launch of new models within OpenAI’s API, including GPT-4 Turbo with Vision—a variant of the usual text-based GPT-4 Turbo equipped with image comprehension capabilities—the latest update to ChatGPT has been introduced.
This update comes amidst a challenging period for OpenAI. Recent reports from The Intercept unveiled Microsoft’s proposal of OpenAI’s DALL-E text-to-image model for potential military application. Additionally, according to an article in The Information, OpenAI has dismissed two researchers, one of whom was an associate of chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, known for advocating for the removal of CEO Sam Altman towards the end of last year, allegedly due to information leaks.
