Galaxy AI represents Samsung’s newest innovation, utilizing a combination of on-device and cloud-based AI to “empower everyone, everywhere.”
Samsung has revealed its future roadmap for Galaxy AI, a holistic mobile AI experience crafted to “empower everyone, everywhere” by enhancing communication, productivity, and creativity features.
As stated in the official communication, Galaxy AI will make use of both on-device AI developed by Samsung and cloud-based AI, facilitated through partnerships with industry collaborators. The goal is to introduce innovative AI capabilities while prioritizing privacy and security.
An illustrative instance includes the introduction of the AI Live Translate Call feature, which provides instantaneous audio and text translations during phone conversations with individuals speaking different languages. This integrated feature within the native calling function eliminates the reliance on external translation apps. Samsung assures that translations will occur directly on the device, ensuring privacy protection.
Besides translations, Samsung remained ambiguous about the additional features Galaxy AI might unlock. The official statement alluded to breaking down communication barriers, streamlining productivity, and fostering creativity in “all the places it matters most.” More specifics on how AI will precisely enhance productivity and creativity through Samsung devices will be revealed at a later time.
Galaxy AI, termed by Wonjoon Choi, EVP and Head of R&D for Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, as a “comprehensive intelligence offering,” is set to “transform how we perceive our phones permanently.”
The anticipated launch of Galaxy AI is scheduled for early 2023, promising that it won’t be much longer until Samsung unveils further details on how AI will enhance the mobile experience.
Samsung has introduced Gauss, its proprietary large language model capable of crafting emails, generating summaries, creating images, and more. Initially designated for internal use only, Samsung has expressed its intention to eventually release Gauss for Galaxy phones.
