Flipkart’s Ambition: Generating 100,000 Jobs for Big Billion Days Sale

E-commerce giant Flipkart has announced plans to create a significant number of seasonal jobs across its supply chain throughout India in preparation for The Big Billion Days (TBBD) sale event scheduled for September 23-30, 2023. In anticipation of the festive season, Flipkart aims to generate over 100,000 new job opportunities across its supply chain, including roles at fulfillment centers, sortation centers, and delivery hubs. These seasonal positions will encompass a diverse group of individuals, including local kirana delivery partners, women, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and more.

According to Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President and Head of Supply Chain, Customer Experience, and ReCommerce at Flipkart Group, the scale and complexity of TBBD demand an unprecedented expansion of capacity, storage, placement, sorting, packaging, human resources, training, and delivery within the supply chain. He also mentioned that Flipkart plans to deliver more than 40% of shipments through its kirana delivery program this year, aiming to enhance the prosperity of its partners and expand delivery capabilities across remote areas of India.

Flipkart has been expanding its supply chain with last-mile distribution hubs and fulfillment centers, increasing its presence in Tier III cities and beyond. With over 19 lakh square feet of space, the company has expanded its operations in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Telangana.

Flipkart is committed to providing skill development initiatives for its supply chain workforce, equipping them to handle various tools and technologies effectively. New hires undergo training in supply chain processes, handheld devices, PoS machines, scanners, and mobile applications, with a focus on technology-driven supply chains, foodtech, and related industries.

Founded in 2007, Flipkart boasts a registered customer base of more than 450 million and collaborates with 11 lakh sellers who offer a vast catalog of over 150 million products spanning more than 80 categories. The upcoming ‘The Big Billion Days’ event will mark Flipkart’s tenth edition since its inception in 2014.
