Google Photos introduces a Memories view feature with the assistance of AI, reminiscent of a scrapbook

Google Photos is unveiling a fresh approach to revisiting and sharing cherished memories by introducing a brand-new Memories view, which is now available to users in the United States.

This innovative feature enables you to safeguard your most cherished moments or craft entirely new ones, constructing a timeline reminiscent of a scrapbook. This timeline encompasses a collection of standout experiences such as unforgettable journeys, joyous celebrations, and everyday interactions with loved ones.

This enhancement builds upon Google Photos’ existing Memories feature, which has been in existence for four years and serves as a means to recall significant moments from your personal history. Previously presented in a carousel format atop the Google Photos app, this feature has evolved into a fusion of Stories and Facebook Memories.

It empowers you to seamlessly flip through beloved photographs from past months and years. Notably, this capability is now embraced by over five hundred million users on a monthly basis.

The newly introduced Memories view now empowers users to engage with their favorite moments in a more imaginative manner. This feature offers the ability to curate specific photos within the Memories view, granting the freedom to add or remove images according to individual preferences.

Furthermore, users are now able to initiate their own Memories view, independent of the app’s auto-generated selection. Renaming this personalized view is also an option, allowing users to craft a title that resonates with their unique memories, as opposed to the default labels like “Best of August 2013.”

Additionally, an experimental feature from Google Labs within Photos introduces AI-generated title suggestions. These suggestions are accessible by clicking on the “Assist with title” button. Users have the flexibility to either modify the AI-generated suggestions or guide them towards different aspects to include, facilitated by the “Add hint” button. Google emphasizes that user feedback will play a pivotal role in refining the AI’s capabilities over time.

Nevertheless, it’s important to note that the AI feature is presently accessible to a limited number of accounts within the United States.

Incorporating a personalized touch into your Memories timeline, you also have the option to extend invitations to friends and family for collaborative participation. This collaborative endeavor enables them to contribute their cherished photos and videos to the Memories view you’ve meticulously crafted, mirroring the concept of Shared Albums.

The end result is a captivating timeline resembling a scrapbook, adorned with an assortment of photos and videos. This visually appealing compilation can be seamlessly shared across different platforms of social media. Notably, there are plans to expand this sharing capability to encompass videos as well, hinting at Google’s intention to engage with short-form video platforms such as YouTube Shorts and TikTok.
