In 2023, an estimated 31 million users in India are poised to make the transition to 5G smartphones, reflecting the accelerated uptake of ultra high-speed services within the nation, as per findings from Ericsson. India stands out on the global stage for its 5G user base’s daily adoption of applications. The introduction of 5G has significantly enhanced overall network satisfaction in India, registering a remarkable 30% increase compared to 4G, as revealed in a Global Survey conducted by Ericsson Consumer Lab.
The report states, “Based on assessments of technological preferences and affordability, it is projected that 31 million users will potentially upgrade to 5G-enabled smartphones in 2023. This represents a substantial opportunity for further 5G integration throughout the country.”
Notably, 5G users in India exhibit distinctive behavior marked by frequent daily engagement with applications such as high-definition video streaming, video calling services, mobile gaming, and augmented reality. On average, they dedicate an additional two hours per week to these activities in comparison to users in other early-adopting 5G markets like the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, China, among others.
Furthermore, India’s 5G user satisfaction levels and perceived 5G availability either match or exceed those found in early-adopter markets. India records an impressive 13% higher proportion of highly satisfied 5G users compared to the early-adopter market average.
Overall user satisfaction experiences a substantial 30% surge when transitioning from 4G to 5G, with the enhanced download speeds playing a pivotal role in driving this elevated satisfaction, as highlighted in the survey conducted by the Swedish telecommunications equipment manufacturer, Ericsson.
